The scenery from above Riomaggiore, the oldest village in the Cinque Terre is breathtaking. Once parked at the top of the village we will start winding down walking through its houses which cluster both sides of the steep valley. The walk down will end at the ancient marina that is still intact as it was about 1000 years ago and it is one of the most attractive and remarkable corners of Cinque Terre. We will head onto the famous "Via dell'Amore" (Walkway of Love) a romantic, easy and flat trail carved along the cliffs that offers spectacular views over the coastline and connects Riomaggiore to Manarola. Apart from some steps up to the trail Via dell’Amore is an easy 25 minutes walk on flat 1000 yards of paved walkway. One of the interesting things that you will see along the trail are padlocks on a fence and under the tunnel near the Manarola side. Young lovers wanting to lock in their love forever come to Via dell’Amore and write their names on the lock and close it on a fence along the trail. Some might think that the locks thrash up the area but hey,this is part of the romantic history of Cinque Terre’s lovers’ lane!
Perched high on the southern cliff, the charming village of Manarola is composed by a myriad of alleys which go all around it and walking along toward the point of the promontory will allow you to have the most breathtaking view of it. The visit will continue using either a local train or ferry which rides along the Cinque Terre coastline that in about 10 minutes will easily transport us to Vernazza a beautiful 1st century village with an amphitheater shape and narrow streets to explore. Driving out of Cinque Terre is a fantastic moment as the road is one of the most breathtaking and scenic, no doubt this is the most scenic ride you may do in any Italy shore excursion especially when we will reach Corniglia the only one of the Cinque Terre that is not directly on the water, this is the most ancient and most quaint. On the way back coasting along mountains and cutting through the terraces will give you unforgettable memories of this enjoyable shore trip.
